Although this hotel is new, the staff are excellent and appear to have worked together for years. The executive lounge is very good, with great views over Dubai with food and drinks to match. We were booked in by Daria who explained the hotel perfectly and made sure we were able to take part in afternoon tea that was about to end. William also in the lounge was excellent and made our stay at the Obelisk a memorable one. Our room was large and had a good view over Dubai Creek. Breakfast in the main restaurant was busy however the offering was extensive of great quality with no shortages. Despite the size of the hotel all the staff were able to meet customers needs without any issues. The pool area is good with a great team that supply the towels and umbrellas with an availability of beds all day. Although we have stayed in Dubai many times, this was our first visit to this hotel and as a result of the quality and staff will return in the future.

Good hotels but with a lot to improve

It is appalling to me that you can smoke in so many areas of this hotel. I understand this is Dubai but smoking and non smoking areas should be clearly defined. When I arrived at the hotel I asked about booking a place at one of the restaurants. I was told I had to where pants. I was really upset to get to the restaurant and see many people in shorts. But the biggest problem I had was to arrive early and be told that I would have my room ready in a while, about 40 mins. 4 hours later I still didn’t have my room. I understand the Hotel is not required to have the room ready in advance, but don’t tell someone it will be ready if it won’t. When I mentioned this checking in the reply I got was “whatever”. The dryer in the room doesn’t work properly as the outlet in the bathroom isn’t strong enough to make it work. These are not issues one would expect to have at this type of hotel.

The hotel is very nice and clean , room was spacious well equipped and with nice view on Burj Khalifa, breakfast was fairly good, and the bed is not bad, but when my flight to Dubai delayed and I reached to the hotel after 11:59 pm , The hotel canceled my booking and I had to wait for like 70. Minutes ti check-in and that’s only after the manager (Mr.Mohammad) made a tremendous effort to get me my booking back. From my previous experience, a much smaller chain of hotels would always call me if I didn’t show up on time before deciding to chancel my booking

Obelisk building itself is unique... I like that. Makes the experience more interesting. The interior is grand and welcoming. Breakfast was amazing. And we were upgraded to a deluxe room with lounge. We felt really spoilt.

The whole experience was a disaster! Room received 2 hours late, room not being cleaned unless asked, at times we I asked and still not clean, often water was not left and other bathroom amenities. After complaining about check in experience to Baha, he said he will check and escalate to senior management and see what he can do…. I chased him several times throughout my 6 night stay but he never got back to me. Service was overall one of the poorest I have experienced in Dubai and definitely the poorest in a 5 stars. Very sad for a Sofitel hotel. Concierge refused to pick up delivery, while it wasn’t food. Both Auristelle (concierge) and Baha (reception manager) are aware of the situation. I will never stay at this hotel ever again and will make sure non of my business partners, friends and family do. Very disappointing and this ruined my stay in Dubai!

I was really disappointed with Sofitel. The rooms were not serviced and we were not checked in till 6 PM on the day of arrival. Upon continuously requesting the team for a dental kit while we waited in the lobby after an overnight flight the team failed to get me a simple toothbrush and paste. Big disappointment from a coveted brand like Sofitel.

I have been staying at this Sofitel for a while now, but last time my experience was not that good! Although I asked for early check in ( I was not able to check in till 4:00 P.M) Joe was nice and tried to help, but it didn't help much as I was in hurry and wanted to check in to catch up my meeting. Moreover, I asked for help with my luggage and it took them 30 minutes to send someone ( an issue I faced with them many times before)!!!
