Enjoy your food poisoning

My wife and I got food poisoning from the hotel food, which grounded us to the room and lose most of our vaction Reception staff are not nic, but rest of the hotel staff is great.

Conclusion it was very nice But hope to improve the below Pool snacks, very poor We were expecting food quality more than this Re visit the prices for 4 stars hotels

My wife and I had waited three years for this vacation after the pandemic we needed the rest. On arrival to the main reception building we were impressed by the high end building and WOW factor interior. Check in was fast and friendly by the professional reception staff in no time we were on our way to our room. The Rixos hotel is a big complex with wide green open spaces. Sitting on our gulf cart ride to our room seeing the complex on the way my wife and I felt that this would be the dream vacation we had been waiting for. All of the public areas we saw were super maintained by an army of Rixos employees. It all seemed too good to be true. We arrived at our room and noticed that walking through the hall we saw that the five star hotel receptions lobby and pristine public grounds was now looking more like a three star hotel plain not so clean halls. Our room was an OK size but dated, but it was a cheap room so have no right to complain you get what you pay for. The room had no windows, but a great view to the main pool that made up for how the room looked inside. So far so good. Once we closed the door noticed paint or turpentine smell in the room we opened the sliding glass door to air out the room, but outside the smell was even stronger coming from rooms next to us that were under renovation. The room AC at night just recirculated the smell to the point my wife could not sleep because of the smell, but were not going to let that stop us from having a great vacation. Besides the smell the room had a few other issues; the sliding patio door that would not lock it looked like someone had used a screw driver on the broken lock, the free mini bar door would not keep closed and the minibar was in a closed unventilated cabinet that was hot from the minibar's compressor so drinks were only chilled never cold. Shower tub had no glass door every shower the bathroom floor was wet. I know I should have asked for another room, but was not sure the next room would not have other issues so stayed with what we had. We had to search for the Palm restaurant by asking other guests. no directions or explanation were to go to eat. No "you are here" maps outside, OK no big deal. The Palm restaurant is one of the biggest I have seen with more room than any other hotel restaurant indoor or outdoor setting options. The verity and food choices are mind boggling with I think 520 different dishes avlable. The food looks good and well presented the restaurant staff are more than willing to help with anything that you may need. Some of the food especially the leafy vegetables, cooked rice , burgle and a few other dishes had sand. some of the food could tell was fresh while other could tell had been recycled. We made a reservation to eat dinner at the hotel's Italian restaurant the biggest mistake we made. The restaurant was nice inside and selection looked good. The staff not so friendly as in the Palm restaurant. They got one of our orders mixed up with the table next to us and no refilled our soft drinks after asking for. My wife and I had different dishes, but we both had mushroom soup. After dinner went back to our room to go to bed. In the morning we both woke up throwing up and strong stomach cramps that progressed to bad diarrhea for the both of us. We took pramin tablets and were determined not to let this ruin our vacation. Still sick we went ahead and booked a free hotel shuttle to the city in the afternoon. Had no idea this was a scam. The "shuttle" was a private car and my wife and I were the only hotel passengers. The driver dropped us off in some side ally took us to souvenir shop gave the store owner his card with his ,number but not to us and left. The souvenir owner told us in broken English if we wanted a ride back we need come to his souvenir shop and he would call the "shuttle" driver. It was hot day and none of the small shops had AC we were getting sicker and sicker by the minute. We walked back to souvenir shop were we had been dropped off and were advised by the store owner that we needed to buy something after buying some overpriced souvenirs we did not want just to get the store owner to call the hotel shuttle he then asked for 340 Egyptian pounds for him make the call the hotel shuttle driver. I said no that is it and flagged a taxi back to the hotel. We were in bed sick for the rest of our stay at the Rixos too sick to even book an early flight home living on just bread, cola, and soda water stomach crams that would not go away. The room with the paint or turpentine smell did not help. We could not rest or sleep in our room as the pool has from morning until evening nonstop boom, boom techno music that easily comes through the glass doors. To some it all up the smell, the food, the noise I cannot remember ever having such a miserable time. I would not stay at any Rioxs hotel even if it were for free. It is like a Hollywood film set everything looks great, but it is not what it appears to be the looks are deceiving. Final words. The staff at the Rixos are the friendliest people you can find at any hotel any place in the world. They all work very hard to do the best job that they can. From the simple yardman up to management all are outstanding. Sadly the end result of all their hard work is what we ended up with. Thank you, but no thanks.
