« Negative Basic Hospitality »

Bottle of water from minibar frozen. Took it down to the bar to change since had been opened. The barmaid said the waters were different from what she had and couldn’t replace. She went to talk to some manager that held the ground. All other waters were frozen too. Spoke to the reception that assured they would ask the minibar staff to check the fridge and replace the items. Nothing done. The bellboy never took the luggage upstairs and no iron in the premises... contractor laundry service excuse. Breakfast chef extremely slow and probably first timer... actually never cooked an egg or tapioca before and was running the show kitchen. Not going back to this Grand Mercure... disappointed

« Refurbishment and private parties »

During our stay the swimming pool area was closed for three evenings for a private parties. That was not really fair for the other guests paying the full rates. Another thing -refurbishment during our stay starting as early as 7am. No apologies from anyone, it stunk on the corridors and the noise for the whole days was unbelievable. The only good think about this hotel is the location, but if I had the choice again I saouls stay away from this hotel.

Our stay was quiet disappointing. The hotel was old and smelly. Breakfast was poor. Lifts broke down on our last day and we had to use goods lift to leave.

« Satisfied but not impressed »

We stayed two nights at Grand Mercure Copacabana. We were expecting an ocean view apartment but finally we got a renovated room with views of the city, which of course did not have the wow effect. We had to pay to get an early check in. We could not use the bikes parked in front of the hotel because we are not Accor Platinum members which would have been a highlight if we could have. The pool bar area is really nice with stunning views, but the swimming pool itself is too small. Staff is really friendly and breakfast is good. Overall we are happy with our stay.

« It is not what you expect in s grand mercure »

Classic room extremely old with a noisy air conditioned inside the room and a huge air conditioned machine working 24h a day just outside the window from room 520. And of course the old style window does not have acoustic isolation at all. Mixing hot and cold water at the shower to get the desired water temperature is a big challenge and water flows in a weak water thread...

« Billed my MasterCard £146, for no reason »

The hotel was ok. But why was I billed 789.36 BRL to my MasterCard on 30/11/19? I didn’t owe you any money. I had settled my account in cash 258 BRL! Your counter staff were always over worked with large queues. I want my money back.

Reception was a joke, huge queues. the room was terrible, I arrived at 10am from a cruise ship, I was told to return at 12 noon, fair enough, then was told to return at 2pm, finally I was given a room at 4.45pm. the room was terrible, very dark, looking onto a wall, only one bedside light, a terrible smell, plus full of flies. Having already queued 3 times at receptionI gave in, however other people persevered and changed their rooms. My room was never cleaned before 4pm., except on the day that I was leaving, when a member of staff knocked on the door and just walked in. This was my 5th time in Rio and I speak a little Brasilian Portugeuse. I felt that the place was understaffed and staff morale was very low. . .

« Horrible room »

The room was old and dirty. The toilet blocked and had to report twice before it was fixed. The telephone did not work. We were on floor 6 and the lift would not stop there. There was a dirty food tray on the stairs for hours. There was a stronge smell of air freshener from the air con unit which affected my chest. The pool area was dirty and so was the pool. The umbrellas were broken. On a good note, there was a good selection at breakfast and the porters were very friendly

« Excellent staff made up for shortfalls »

Staff were all helpful and friendly - please pass on my thanks. Room fine, but safe didn't work and elevators also wasted some of my very limited time in Rio by going to random floors or not working at all. Great view from rooftop. Food (lobby bar) was good. Questions raised on my booking were not answered, even when I sent a follow-up email. Both issues were addressed at check-in, so I don't understand why I was just left in limbo between booking and arrival.
