Always stay at the Ala Moana Hotel when traveling to Oahu. This is the first time I have had trouble with the card key. The card key worked in the elevator, but not the room door. 1st time did not work, went to front desk, got keys replaced, 2nd time did not work again. Went back to the front desk. After second time, security was contacted. Keys worked on the 3rd try.

Poor. Elevator on the 17th would not stop for a Down button the whole day. And I reported it at 8:30 or so.

I would not recommend it. I was there for a conference but with no pool or sundeck it was not enjoyable for my wife. I appreciated the price but the room was from anywhere looking out onto other towers.

The room assigned to me (1508) was not up to my expectations. I’ve stayed here many times. Comments on condition of room: water damage on bottom of bathroom door; signs of mold in corners of shower/tub; stain on wallpaper under lamp; floor lamp in corner unplugged; no valet/laundry bags in closet. I requested not to have the room serviced and called for extra towels and laundry bags; received them after asking the maid in the hallway. The air conditioning unit hummed continuously.

I was not informed about the hotel renovations when I called and booked my reservations with the Ala Moana Hotel. Even though the Corona virus scare is in full swing, my girlfriend and I wanted to get away and have a relaxing time working out in the morning before starting our day then coming back to the pool in the afternoon. When we were checking in we were told that the pool was under construction. My girlfriend was crushed and I was considering going to another hotel even though I stay at the Ala Moana Hotel every time I visit Oahu. Because I booked one day in advance, I was not allowed to cancel without forfeiting the entire cost for my four night visit. Rather than offering us anything to make up for this huge disappointment, the agent checking us in just stared at us silently basically saying take it or lose your money. As we were sitting there, we heard the agent next to us happily upgrading another guest to an ocean view room with a king size bed (when I was booking directly with the hotel, I was told that there were no ocean view rooms with a king size bed available). After hearing the other agent make the offer, I asked if we could have our room upgraded too. Unlike the agent next to us, our agent made a big deal out of it and said she had to go ask a manger. Mind you, it was not a big upgrade because I had booked a partial ocean view with a king bed because I was told the ocean view with a king bed was unavailable. We then asked if the hotel had a deal with any other hotel so that guests could use their pool. The agent said that at first there was a deal and vouchers were given, but it was no longer being done. We were also told that the fitness room would be open. Unfortunately, that was a lie. Like fools, we decided to stay. There were no Starbucks voucher given even though I am a Mantra+ member, I was told that checkout was at eleven in the morning even though Mantra+ members are supposed to get the 12pm late checkout. When I asked for the late checkout, I was told that I had to call the front desk after 8am to ask if I could do it. Overall, I was really saddened by the lack of care and compassion showed by the people I dealt with. I had always gotten really wonderful service on all of my prior stays. For the price I paid and for the amenities that were available, I feel totally ripped off. There are so many choices of hotels on Oahu for me to choose from and yet I always picked the Ala Moana Hotel. This type of visit really makes me want to reconsider that. I am really disappointed and hope that someone from the hotel would contact me.

We spend our last 2 nights in Hawaii in this hotel. Connected via the second floor to the mall which is a short walk away. We were in the newer Waikiki Tower with partial ocean views. Nice clean modern accommodation.

Stayed over night for next day surgery. Front desk and security were super helpful and friendly. Even the ladies in the ABC Store inside the hotel were really personable. Checking in and out was super easy. We also had an early check-in which was perfect!!

The second floor is connected to the Mall which is quite convenient when shopping or getting a bite. The beach is in walking distance as well. I stay here often and am usually satisfied. During this trip (March 2020) they were doing major construction in the lobby witch proved to be quiet a nuisance, but the staff seem to be trying their best to compensate for it.

Nice room and amenities, overall. Still missing attention to details that matter. For example, renovations create confusion. Signage should be clearly worded. Elevator access to lobby should be stated which ones go there. Not one sifn by buttons that say "1st Floor Access." Or, when checking in, maybe it should be explained. Also, there was a clothing price tag on the floor from a previous guest. In addition, we went for breakfast and the gal checking us in the restaurant stated breakfast was included, only to tell us later, it wasn't.

Excellent front desk and common area service, but lacked cleanliness and restocking in room.

There was construction during our stay, not to mention the coronavirus news developing. However, there was ample, friendly staff to help guide us through to check in and elevators. The front desk staff were kind and quick. They also upgraded our room to a higher floor, close to the elevators, ice, and vending machines. Hand sanitizer was on hand at the front and throughout the hotel. Although the room was in an excellent location, some things about the room stood out. The bathroom smelled like bad breath when we first entered. I don't know why, but it cleared out after a while, maybe after I cleaned the sink. The shower curtain also smelled like it was damp and sat for a while without airflow causing it to smell. The washcloths weren't replenished after we followed the directions in the card and left the towels, etc. in a pile in the tub. Lastly, the lanai was dirty, I don't think the seats, table, or floor had been cleaned in a while. The buffet was an excellent experience. Staff was so welcoming and wonderful. There were all kinds of hot and cold food options and someone would check on us every few minutes. My favorite was making my own waffles and the eggs benedict. I do wish they had cups larger than a shot glass for juice, but I understand that people tend to waste. We will definitely get the buffet again in the future. Very, very good. I do need to emphasize that the staff and security around the hotel were excellent. We really appreciated their guidance and friendliness. Also, they were there giving 200% at a time when everyone is freaking out about the virus. Will be here again soon!

No pool; extensive renovations

Booked this for a staycation but was never notified that the pool was closed nor was it disclosed that extensive renovations were taking place leaving several elevators out of service and the lobbies a maze to navigate. Very frustrating. Was asked at check in if we knew the pool wouldn’t be accessible and told him: no, not at al- we would not have chosen this hotel if we knew. He offered no type of compensation to alleviate the headache.

Location was perfect. Amenities in the room were good - micro, coffee maker. Unfortunately, we had to change rooms due to the front door getting stuck when opening/closing, closet door was off the track, sliding door didn't lock.

Stayed in 2 bedroom suite. Rooms were nice- caught one small cockroach though! Having to catch two elevators just to get to the bottom was an inconvenience as one set only took you to the second floor due to the construction. You should have posted construction on your website and not send an email just a week before we arrived. I’ve been staying at your hotel for years now whenever I return to Oahu and I didn’t think that was very fair of you to not notify us in advance.

Aside from the confusion with the elevator, I had a great time staying at Alamoana. It was my first time and the service was great. I had some trouble with the coffee maker, and housekeeping addressed it right away. Thank you for the awesome services, from the front door to the reception, eateries to housekeeping.
