The room was nothing like the 2brd 2bthr suite shown on booking .com photos .. it was so dark and dingy no balcony no view just looking onto another part of the building .. very very disappointing as we have stayed at an art series hotel before, The Fauntazzo and it was superb, the complete opposite to the room we were given at the Johnson the furnishing was awefully bland as well and cheap looking .. we just had a quick look around and were so unimpressed we left .. the receptionist was very polite and seemed to inderstand but unfortunately that was the not room available apart from the penthouse we declined and she offered a refund .. we then found the Ovolo thank goodness and stayed there it was fabulous and highly recommend it

Not the same service as the other 2 times we have stayed

Unfortunately we weren’t told when booking that the restaurant wasn’t operational. We also weren’t told that there was no room service unless you asked. The room was missing a towel and tea towel.

This heritage listed building was originally the Department of Main Roads head office and was my first place of employment. I have lots of memories here that go back almost 50 years , so it was just a great experience to come back to see such a transformation. This is a perfect place to stay so close to the city.

Very well located, cold water in the shower

Very beautiful hotel that was recommended by a friend of ours Unfortunately the water in the shower was cold. We thought it might be fixed by the morning so it was still cold. In the afternoon we decided to check with the desk what was going on. They told us they had this problem for a few days and that "it is not really broken" but that it would be fixed in the next couple of days. They asked whether they could compensate with a bottle of wine. Leaving us not much choice we agreed. That evening we came back to find a cheap bottle of white wine and this was our last night in Brisbane before travelling back to SA. So we just left the bottle there. So overall that was quite disappointing, especially knowing that the staff knew it was cold water and did alocate us this room without even notifying. Other then that I think it s a beautiful hotel in a very good location for very fair prices. Sincerely Jan

While the rooms lived up to the photos I was extremely disappointed with the issue with the water. I had booked 2 rooms and was only notified upon check in about the issue with the hot water system, rather than in advance where I could have made alternate arrangements. Myself having a cold shower in the middle of winter is one thing, but one of my guests is heavily pregnant and was unable to shower during the stay. I understand that this may have been out of your control but the lack of communication when you were aware of the problem days before our arrival is just poor service and in doing so, you haven’t provided the agreed facilities, so a partial refund should be issued.

No hot water

Staff were friendly and I appreciate that they let us check in early and out at midday (complimentary) but we had no hot water and was not even told about it. We called reception and was advised that the hot water will be back in the afternoon (it wasn’t). Then we called again in the morning and was told to leave the water running until it becomes warm but it never did, plus one of the air-conditioners wasn’t working.
