Wonderful stay, but tarnished by a tacky money grab at the end

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

eligold Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

Definitely a memorable hotel with exceptional staff — warm, conscientious, and hospitable. Downsides: - Room needed some maintenance (two of six light bulbs didn’t work — a big deal when the room had almost no natural light — and the cold water tap required a substantial number of twists until water came out [unlike the hot water].) - The bottle of water provided in the room upon arrival is an undisclosed GBP 4.20 minibar item, which they only revealed upon departure. This felt like a low-taste money grab that cheapened an otherwise positive hotel experience, and left a bad taste upon departure.

I don't want to let this secret out of the bag!

I debated whether or not to write this review as I feel that I might let the cat out of the bag about this wonderful jewel in the crown...and I don't want to have to compete for a room in future ! This oasis in Sloane Square, with its sumptuously cozy reception rooms, gorgeous private garden, a check in involving being welcomed in, seated at a lovely desk and attended to as you ease in to your stay, and tea time, prosecco time and - best of all - nightly hot chocolate time is simply ideal. It was clear from those I met that most guests are return visitors and likely second generation of Draycott devotees. The bedroom I stayed in (the Redgrave, at the top of the house) was charming, comfortable and quiet. The entire experience was "wealthy and erudite great aunt invites you - her favourite niece - for a weekend up in London". The staff, of course, sent the experience over the top: while breakfast room, late afternoon porter and morning office teams were personable and friendly, Sherlun, Rana and John deserve a special note. These gentlemen, in their own unique ways, were clearly "wealthy great aunts' trusted and loyal retinue", who naturally anticipated your every need. Looking forward to my return.

Lovely hotel in a quiet area

We stayed for three nights at the Draycott Hotel. It’s only short walk from the underground station (Sloane Square) and there is a small street with cafés, bars and restaurants just around the corner. The double room (J. Baxter) was very spacious with sofa, desk, table and two chairs. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom seemed to be recently renovated. In general, everything was in excellent condition. The staff are fantastic: the friendliest and most helpful staff I've ever experienced in a hotel in London! The breakfast buffet offers all you need but there is the option to order additional dishes from a menu. In the afternoon they serve tea and biscuits in the lounge and hot chocolate in the evening.

We recently visited the Mantis Draycott to stay in London to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's tucked away behind Sloane Square, so a great location and a short walk (15 mins) to Harvey Nicholls, Mayfair (30 mins) and Harrods (20 mins). The hotel is a beautiful town house, with a very cosy welcoming feel. Our room was the Cliveden Club Room, and even though i mucked up the booking for choosing a room for one person, the room was big enough for two and importantly the bed was a Queen size, so i didn't have to sleep on the floor! It's not cheap to stay there, but i think it's worth it for a special stay. Our breakfast was only available as room service to to ongoing COVID measures, but this made it feel rather special actually!

We were so glad to finally make it back to The Draycott. Our last visit was in January 2020 when few people had heard of Covid. It was great to see familiar faces in familiar surroundings again and spend time relaxing in the lounge. Our breakfasts were delicious. My one request is that the quality of the toast is improved! A relatively small change from Chorleywood factory bread to a 'real bread' such as a slow proved sourdough or multigrain, rye, etc, would be very welcome. We love this hotel, the staff, and the area. We will return soon.
