Have stayed before and had a lovely lake room on the ground floor. The room was right at the end this time and the patio sliding door was very heavy to handle. The water in the bath ran brown the first night, but this was resolved before our second night. The light above the kettle flickered on and off and although this was also reported, the issue was not resolved during our stay. The bed was very comfortable, lovely crisp sheets and lovely fluffy white towels. Curtains kept out the light. No central light in the room, only lamps which made it a bit dull at night. No sockets or USB ports near the bed for charging phone/electrics without getting out of bed. Overall a lovely stay, and I understand the rooms are about to be refurbished. Will be back!

Awful stay

Bathroom grubby, glad I bought antibacterial wipes with me. Five minutes after the toilet was flushed it made the most weird and loud noises, No TV remote and towels only for one person so had to go to reception., remote when delivered didn't work, man had to come with new remote and tune in the TV.. 0000Breakfast was appalling, we went down at 9.00am, only four disposable cups there, no lids, stale, tasteless croissants, no honey. Such a waste of money. Only plus the staff were very pleasant.

Beautiful but average

Beautiful hotel. Brilliant that they allow dogs and really cute that they have doggie treats at the entrance which are complimentary. BUT on entrance to the room I checked the top drawer to see if there was any information about breakfast but instead found two tobacco packets and bits of rubbish/drawings left by the previous residents. Considering we're in the middle of a pandemic and the rooms are meant to be "extra clean" I was confused and took it all to reception incase someone came back for it. I know it sounds petty but one of the toilet rolls in the bathroom were half used, which I wouldn't usually complain about but again being in a pandemic and knowing that means the last occupants had been using it... Also bits of mould on the tiles and a weird black hole/mark in the bath which looked like a cigarette burn?! Oh and the water pressure in the shower was so ridiculous we could have had a better wash in the sink. Breakfast was a "takeaway" service meaning you picked up food and took it back to your room. Was so so disappointed that it was only continental and we could have paid less and got a better breakfast from McDonald's! That being said, the grounds are lovely for walking the dog and the staff are really nice. Beautiful but average!

It suited our needs for just one night

Whilst it was a pleasant surprise to be upgraded to a Privilege Room, the basin in the bathroom was blocked and only drained away slowly leaving a scum residue in the basin. There was only one set of towels and one shampoo so the room was not ready for occupancy by two people. By the time we realised the blockage in the basin we had unpacked and couldn't be bothered to repack and move rooms

The room was lovely however the corridor smelt of drugs all the time we was there, people not wearing masks out of rooms, rooms way to hot and all night there was banging and what sounded like screaming

excellent for dog owners, great location ,good value

Stayed overnight for an early hospital appointment. Early call and taxi went according to plan.. Couldn't ask for more under lockdown. We would certainly use the Hotel again. Particular mention of the helpful night duty staff person.

Problem with room, problems with replacement room

Customer review rating 1.0/5

Simon W. Business - 13/02/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

as always the team were very helpful and friendly, but there were multiple issues with my room, and then with my replacement room, many of which were easily spotted and I think should not have been left unresolved before letting a room to a guest. I was somewhat disappointed to be made no offer of compensation, and, when I rather reluctantly asked for such "perhaps one of three nights removed from my bill" this was declined - on the gourds that 'discounts' would be a matter for the manager.

Old and tired. (The hotel, not me!)

I stayed in room 304 with my son for one night. We arrived in the snow on 8th February 2021 and the window in our room was open and the room was freezing. I was told by the chap on reception and he said the maids had been instructed to keep the windows open. Unfortunately the room didnt warm up because I dont think the radiator worked. I asked the chap on reception and he told me to turn the radiator up to 5, which I was happy to do, only to discover it was already on 5. So at about 8pm I got into bed jut to try and get warm. Apaet from that, my observations are: 1) The gents loo behind reception stunk. I don't know when it wss last cleaned but it was really nasty. 2) I'm 6'1", which isn't particularly tall these days, and I had to bend down to get my head under the showet. 3) The shower trickled water out, rather than pumped it out at a decent flow. 4) The beds are on skateboard wheels. As I sat on the bed, it moved about 2ft across the floor. 5) The bathroom is very tired and needs a deep clean. Whoever installed that towel rail thing above the toilet cistern needs sacking. Check out how they installed the earthing cable. 6) Wallpaper is peeling off the wall behind the bed. On the one hand, we all get what we pay for and perhaps I shouldn't complain about a room that costs £56. Perhaps I expect too much? Either way, if I owned a hotel that was shabby and left guests feeling grotty and disappointed, I'd want to know.

Dear Steven H., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Sheffield Kenwood Hall & Spa. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. At Mercure Kenwood Hall, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. I have addressed a number of issues raised with the relevant people and asked for the maintenance team to ensure both water pressure and heating is fixed as a priority in room 304. As you can imagine, occupancy levels are much lower than previous times and with less traffic through bedrooms we can often miss small issues that we would usually be made aware of and resolved in a more timely manner. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Should you choose to give us another opportunity please do contact me direct at lu… so I can ensure you receive a complimentary upgrade for your stay. Sincerely, Luke Green Front of House Manager

I was not pleased seeing some guests drinking and smoking at the hotel entrance a dog allowed in the hotel. Having said that l do appreciate that we are in unprecedented times and unusual things will happen. I am not putting a blame on the hotel under these extreme circumstances

Overall the stay was good, however the room was not warm enough, and it would have been nice tobe informed there was a microwave for guest use.

winsay 23/12/2020 TripAdvisor review

I stayed at the hotel for a week after being evacuated from my house due to fire hazard. Upon check-in I received a free upgrade to one of the Privilege rooms which was much appreciated. The room was massive and the view from the window (woods, running squirrels and birds) was fantastic. Two male members of staff at the front desk are a massive asset to the company (sorry guys, I never got your name). Both of them were extremely helpful, friendly and definitely made my stay better. The thing that needs addressing is the breakfast times. On 2 occasions I came down for the breakfast at the times indicated on welcome letter and the breakfast had already finished. Also the water pressure in shower was rather poor, it took me ages to wash my hair and rinse off the shampoo. Apart from that I had an amazing stay and will definitely recommend the hotel to my friends and family when they’re visiting Sheffield.

Thank you so much for taking the time in sharing your experiences and I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us, albeit, in difficult circumstances. I will be sure to address the niggles regarding the breakfast times and shower pressure with the relevant team members, thank you for highlighting and I will pass on your kind comments to our front desk team. We very much look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future, hopefully in better times. Kind Regards, Dan Wilson General Manager

I have stayed multiple times at this hotel. Obviously it is challenging at the moment, but all was in accord with current rules, and a reasonable breakfast was available, certainly better than what was on offer during the first lockdown. I am looking forward to returning next year when hopefully everything will be back to normal.

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your experiences and I am really pleased that you continue to enjoy your visits to Kenwood Hall. We reviewed our breakfast offering from the first lock down and wanted to add improvements. I am pleased that you enjoyed it in most recent weeks. We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in better times. Kind Regards, Dan Wilson General Manager

Due to having flat renovations and covid restrictions we spent nearly 2 weeks in the Kenwood. The location of the hotel meant we were close to the Derbyshire countryside and also close to the centre of Sheffield. Although limited staff wise, the service we had was excellent.

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your experiences on Trip Advisor and it was a real pleasure in having you and your wife stay with us. We hope you enjoy your house renovations and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind Regards, Dan Wilson General Manager

bobhannington 28/10/2020 TripAdvisor review

Quite good, although mattress was very poor and needed replacing, had a real bad back in the morning, and room very noisy with air con fan. When staying previously we have been upgraded to the privilege rooms. Noticed that entry plates to and from the lift were very dirty. Breakfast was OK, but bacon very fatty. These things were mentioned when checking out.

Thank you for taking the time in sharing your experiences and I am pleased that you enjoyed your overall stay with us. Your points have been noted and we look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in better times. Kind Regards, Dan Wilson General Manager
