The hotel and hotel staff all were exceptional. I loved my stay. I have not seen such a great staff at any of my stays until now. I am eager to stay again as I really enjoyed and, if possible for General Manager, this time complimentary.

I have stayed at Mövenpick JBR several times many years ago, traveling for business it was always fine and I never noticed any downsides as I didn't use the services of the hotel while working. However, this time I booked with my wife and two kids and we have noticed a few drawbacks compared to the Hilton JBR where we usually stay. Being a hotel manager myself, I must point out the fair obvious that the rate we booked at was unbeatable and not comparable to Hilton, hence a comparison is rather unfair which is why I did not write a public review. Nevertheless, I was asked to review multiple times by email so I obliged, mainly because so little would be required and I feel my critique could help you. The biggest downside for us was the beach experience overall, having always stayed in JBR we are not used to what was presented to us. The beach part itself was the narrowest in all of JBR and fairly dirty but aside from all that - the walk to the beach thru the construction site is beyond anything I have ever seen in Dubai to a point where Management should really take action and file a complaint to Government and/or Construction company. The walkway is borderline unsafe! I have seen screws, broken discs from angle grinders sticking right out from the sand in the walkway where my kids are supposed to walk to the beach! So we carried our kids every time we went to the beach the whole walkway down, which in Dubai august weather was very upsetting and sweating to a point where my wife said we are not going to the beach anymore. Look, I know this is a public area and more or less not your concern but I am telling you from one manager to another, you should walk this way yourself, especially when the sun goes down, 8 pm it's pitch black, it's dangerous and you should resolve this one way or another. I have asked myself several times what I would do in this situation and there are several solutions to this I believe. I would ask the construction company to assign labor to this walkway on a daily or weekly basis and clean up the sand from all danger. Install at least a few lights, it's not difficult but necessary. If none of that is possible I would assign your own employees to at least clean up the walkway once a week. I would call up Rixos management and explain the situation, ask for a favor and work out some deal where my guests could use the Rixos entrance to walk to the beach... perhaps they would also benefit from guests trying their restaurants at some point or do some vouchers promotion. Or arrange one of these electric taxis to go back and forward and bring guests to the beach, this would go such a long way in terms of service and problem-solving. I don't know, there are many solutions that can be done but I am telling you we have spend more days at the hotel pool than at the beach in all of our 14-day stay, given that we came to Dubai specifically for the ocean - this was a major problem, to say the least. Ok, enough about that, you get the point... a beach Hotel needs to address the BEACH issues. The rest of the experience was overall very good. No matter what we did, we saw incredible VALUE. Price to performance ratio was always very, very high. For example, we had several Massages with the 2 for 1 offer. Great value. We enjoyed the Dinner Buffer with drinks included and got 20% off with club discount, great value. I think most guests wouldn't notice but I believe we got an upgraded room since we stayed on the 20th floor, so great value there, and once again the rate that we booked at, is unprecedented: GREAT VALUE. Now, let me please point out a few things I have been dying to tell you from the beginning as we find them soooo weird and they are so easy to fix if you wanted to fix them: 1) Parking. We appreciate the free parking but why on earth do you make guests walk thru the hot garage and lock the door to the elevator? I have been told it's due to covid but please elaborate on this as it makes zero sense to us. In order to park at the hotel, you must be a hotel guest and tell the room number to security before he opens the gate, no? in order to be a hotel guest, you must check in at reception, no? In order to check-in, you must present a negative covid test, no? So then, why oh why, would you make me walk thru two parking levels inside the garage, exit the building and walk back thru the lobby where no one checks me anyway - to get to the same elevator that I could have taken downstairs?! It's so awkward... 2) I don't understand the whole Mövenpick Products Branding and Marketing deal, I would like to understand it but I just don't get it. Please help me... You make Coffee, you make jams, you make ice cream, right? Is there a reason why none of these products are being promoted to your own guests? Like, for example, you have Dinner buffets with everything included but not once did we get ice cream for dessert, not even the kids. Ice cream must be cheaper for you to give out than all the patisserie that you create for the evening buffet so I just don't get it. The same goes for coffee. We love coffee, people from Europe in particular care for coffee a lot. You happen to have your own coffee yet at breakfast you serve this automatic machine sauce that is honestly undrinkable instead of making the biggest promotion with your own product line. Why? You already have a barista in the lobby, why not send her to the breakfast area and make proper coffee for guests that care for that and promote your brand with the taste it deserves? Hilton does it and they have no coffee brand. They serve machine coffee as well but for those who like to stand in line to get a proper coffee, they have two baristas that serve proper coffee to start the day, which makes all the difference in the world. It's free by the way, just takes longer. These minor problems end up costing you money - we love the value that you offered us with breakfast but out of 14 days, we only had breakfast maybe 5 times at your hotel because we care for coffee. A breakfast without proper coffee is not a breakfast we can enjoy. So much so, that we rather go out and spend more money to get proper coffee while paying for our kid's breakfast on top instead of taking you up on the offer of free kids breakfast all just because of coffee. Look at how long this text is... can you understand why we find it weird that a Hotel that has its own coffee brand does not take the opportunity to promote it to its maximum potential? At the low rates that you offer off-season, I would always try and recoup some money by having the guests stay at the hotel and consume more but some of the prices are not attractive and make no sense. For example at the pool, you could make a lot more money by offering some deals during day time. Pizza plus drink for free or something like that. The prices need adjustment because again, they make no sense. If you charge for an entire Pizza 44 AED, you can’t or at least shouldn’t charge 22AED for a can of Fanta, especially when it's not even real Fanta but Miranda or what you call it. A can of Soda, not even a glass bottle but an actual can, should not cost 6 dollars. That's why we barely saw anyone buying anything. Match the prices towards your audience and thrive from the volume of sales, not from fewer sales but higher prices. Ok, I gotta go. Hope this helps someone in management. I may come around again for business alone but with family, I doubt that I would try again, no matter the value. Have a nice day.

To be honest, feedback from a colleague in our industry weighs much more in my books and I am incredibly grateful for the time you spent to share your experience and while some of the items have had many attempts at rectification, other suggestions are worth further consideration. Thank you for your comment and suggestions about the beach passage. Unfortunately, this is something truly beyond our control as it is not our property or walkway, and unfortunately no one can guarantee that even with all our efforts (and trust me, we have made many!) the passage will be more safe and clean. We are not a beach property and do not advertise to be a beach property, and thus why our rates are appropriately priced. I can tell you as a GM that genuinely cares however, I have actually tried on many occasions all of your suggestions, and more. The problem is that the construction site went into lockdown and then bankrupt last year with Covid. I could send you an equally lengthy email with all of the times and ways I have tried to engage with previous owners, authorities and the district municipality in the interest of the overall JBR experience, let alone my guests. I sincerely feel your pain as I have myself walked the corridor many times, broken hearted. The Rixos pool and beach are outsourced and they flatly refused to allow our guests to pass through regardless of how high I went in attempts to find someone reasonable. They did offer an AED200/person entrance fee option, which is obviously not an option with the rates we charge. The good news is that they have just recently announced new ownership of the site, so we will attempt to engage with the new owners to rectify the passage way. We do, however, instruct our guests to use the public beach access just a block away to avoid this area. This path is nicely paved and clean. I am sorry this was not well communicated. I was also sorry to hear that the non-availability of an elevator from the lower parking had an impact on your stay. During this time of the pandemic, we have had to make adjustments as people are not willing to have strangers in their cars to valet park. Secondly, we have certain guests who like to bring non-hotel guests up to the rooms and this puts our staff and our guests at risk. As the safety and security of our guests is our top priority we always make sure that all our guests use the main entrance so that we can ensure that all our guests are registered and checked during this time of precaution for Covid. I am happy to know that you had a nice dining and spa experience with us, as well as enjoyed the discounts and offers. Your comments about the Poolside menu pricing is a valid one, and I appreciate the feedback. I have passed this onto my F&B Director who takes this kind of feedback seriously. I have been to the Hilton in the same area but I really enjoyed Movenpick. The breakfast was the best breakfast I have had in any hotels. The staff from Mo in reception to Suresh the lifeguard were amazing! I like how you can bring guests into room and go in other guests room when you make friends in the hotel.

I was also genuinely sorry to see your comment about your check in experience. It seems there was some miscommunication from the agent, but it was quickly resolved. I apologize for the unusual experience you have encountered. We work with different agents, and they buy their rooms in advance when the rates are lower. Last minute rates are always higher as the rooms become limited. I am glad you had a good agent that still had a well priced room for you. We also offer to all our guests to join the Accor Loyalty program which attracts ALL loyalty benefits and points for those members who book on the approved loyalty channels. Our loyalty rates are always the lowest available and we often have member sales which really benefit those who are loyal to Accor hotels. I also see that the Internet was an issue, and I would just like to let you know that we recently completed significant upgrade of our network and delivered lightening speed internet for our guests. Some of our guests are using VPNs that slow down the speed of connection, so this may be the issue. If this is not the case, we would greatly appreciate your feedback so that we may identify the problem and fix it. I would call a walk to the beach a survival walkway. Breakfast is all the same every day, nothing special. Staff is very helpful, house keeping is good.
