Had a lovely 2 night stay in recently refurbished rooms. Rooms are lovely and big. I would have given it a better rating had there hotel had electric charging or even be helpful by giving me an outside plug point to charge car overnight. The other gripe was that toiletries and biscuits not replenished overnight.

Dear Mr P., Thank you for your recent review regarding your stay at the Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House Hotel. The hotel has only just been open a month and although I have managed to re-employ a number of my old team, it has been a struggle as most of them have not been at work for the last 15 months. We have almost completed a total refurbishment of the whole hotel and grounds, just a couple of more weeks and we will see the builders depart. I do apologise for any shortcomings you may have encountered during your stay, we have some challenges - a major one in the hospitality industry is the availability of staff and their skills, sorry. With reference to the use of an external plug to charge your car, I do apologise I am afraid I was away from the business due to a family event however I have spoken to my colleagues to ensure that we do assist the guests with the charging of their electrical cars. What a beautiful hotel! A luxurious, boutique hotel, with a real 'Penhaligons of London' feel to all its decor. Great location. Staff are friendly, polite and helpful. Will definitely stay again.

Hotel has just had a refurbishment, whole hotel is very nice, bathroom etc. Shower was great, bed was VERY comfy, restaurant food was good. Overall good value for money.

From the moment I arrived I was greeted by two extremely friendly, polite and welcoming front office team members. Immediately we were made to feel as though we had come home even though we had never stayed before. The room allocated to us was beautiful and extremely comfortable. The lady each morning at breakfast was extremely friendly and welcoming. So much so my other half was looking forward to seeing her again on the 2nd morning as she was so lovely. The team are a credit to the beautiful hotel they work in. My partner and I look forward to returning in the future and bringing our parents with us.

Iffley is a very pleasant quiet spot not far from the city centre. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and attentive and the superior room was spacious with a large bath. The confirmation of our booking said breakfast would be a package breakfast. We were relieved that this was not so and there was an excellent breakfast in the breakfast room. This requires updating; the website also suggested that the rooms only had a shower. This could also be updated.

Had a lovely 2 days at this hotel. Ideally situated in that we were able to use the hotel parking to park up the car and jumped on a handy bus with frequent service, to get in and back out of Oxford as we wanted. There was a wee mix up with our room not being ready when we arrived, but we were immediately upgraded to a Privilege Room, without question, which was very much appreciated. Breakfast was all you could ask for and the service, from the waitress in the dining room and from the desk staff, was excellent. This is a lovely and very tastefully refurbished hotel, set in a historic building, with lovely landscaping around. We would recommend it very highly.

We stayed from Friday to Sunday. Staff were helpful. Rooms comfortable and clean. Food delicious. Felt very COVID friendly and safe with social distancing and hand santiser etc easily reached and complied with by guests. Really nicely located for walking into Oxford via the river, or a short bus / taxi ride.

WE HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE THAT THE HOTEL WAS OPENING GRADUALLY AFTER A RE FIT AND NOT ALL OF THE FACILITIES , OR STAFF WERE IN PLACE. IT WS NOT THE USUAL MERCURE EXCELLENT STANDARD. HOWEVER, THE STAFF WORKED HARD TO TRY AND COVER ALL OF THE GAPS. THE LADY RUNNING THE BREAKFAST ROOM WAS BRILLIANT BUT VEN SHE COULD NOT DO ALL OF THE JOBS SO THE BUFFET WAS NOT UP TO THE MERCURE STANDARD. HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THE HOTEL WILL BE A SUCCESS BUT SOME WAY TO GO. A VOUCHER FOR A FOLLOW UP STAY WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Eddie & June M.

I will share your comments with our team. The hotel has only been open just over a month following lockdown and a major refurbishment. We have been lucky in that a number of the original team returned after 15 months of not being employed, which has been a blessing although they have struggled with our new standard and expectations. The hospitality industry has suffered from a lack of trained personnel and people, most of our colleagues having returned home and staying there. The builders have almost finished, the problem when one starts to refurbish / renovate an older building, one begins to discover other issues that no-one was aware of, I do apologise. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we look forward to welcoming you both back to the hotel and a welcome bottle of wine, with our compliments in your room on arrival. The only only open 3 weeks ago having being closed for the past 15 months and following a massive refurbishment of the whole building and garden, which I am afraid has still a couple more weeks to go before completion. We have successfully recruited and re-employed a number of our loyal team however it has been a struggle for a few, returning back to work after 15 months of not working, we are training every day. Enjoyable. Special mention for the lovely Jasmine, Reservations Manager, who originally made stay possible and was both professional and kind always. Largely thanks to her I will recommend to others and also return soon myself hopefully. Otherwise some minor issues due to restrictions and re-opening but generally excellent.
