Always great as usual. There was a weird/foul smell in the bathroom the last night. A worrying gas like smell that later turned into a drainage smell. A bit of noise - at first we thought it was the elevator but later probably construction work - and that might have caused the smell as well. And the tv remote control wasn’t working. With all that said - we are extremely happy and grateful for the allocated room due to the view! Simply amazing! Thanks a million for that.

Kind of a Tale of Two Hotels

We booked the Sofitel because of its relative location to our touristy activities and because of the availability of comparatively large and inexpensive suites. What we experienced was a hotel that met and exceeded expectations in some ways, but which disappointed in others. The Good: *The Sofitel is perfectly located in walking distance to the theater district, the Public Library, and to Times Square. This is really convenient because the subway and cabs can be avoided. *The lobby and restaurant are lovely, elegant, yet welcoming. *The fitness center is well-equipped and is surprisingly big for an urban hotel. It has treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and weights. The Not-So-Good: *The rooms, oh the rooms. It’s challenging to accurately depict just how outdated and badly in need of renovation the guest rooms are. While the spaciousness of our suite was appreciated, the room had old stained carpets, old chipped and dated wood furniture, and old and dated sofas and chairs. There’s also no coffee maker, though the hotel will provide it on request. *Communication with the hotel. The Sofitel has no in-app or text messaging system for guests, which is really surprising in this day and age. When we wanted more towels, we had to call down and wait on hold. Not many quality hotels do not offer texting with guests. The Sofitel is located centrally for many attractions and events popular with travelers, but it is a property whose rooms are in desperate need of renovation.
