Booked this hotel well in advance and nobody contacted me to say there was no restaurant and bar during our stay due to renovation - it was the first thing we noticed when we walked in and heard the works, smelled the building dust and so on. There was no notification on the app / website as there is now - I wonder how many complaints there were about this.... - but I am extremely dissatisfied with the visit as we had to go out to get breakfast, dinner, literally everything, every single time. Might not sound bad but it can be exhausting after touring the city all day when all you want is to head downstairs and have dinner in a facility you're paying for the provision of. The hotel was otherwise ok, pretty much what I expect but certainly not above and beyond. Personally I feel that we were not informed of the situation and I simply wouldn't have booked this hotel for that price point if I'd known. Very disappointed in this hotel, but also the Accor group for selling us this stay without informing us and checking, and I'm speaking from a loyal customer perspective. Very poor form indeed. I have contacted customer services in relation to this and await their reply. Was this hotel worth the money we paid for with no amenities, not in any way whatsoever. There were many other options at that price point and I would not have booked this without a restaurant and bar - I don't travel half way round the world to eat in my hotel room, I'm on holiday to enjoy my time and experience NYC for what it should be, not holed up in a room with a tray of food or drinks. PS I had to laugh when I overheard someone asking about their breakfast they'd paid for. You could go over the street to a coffee shop for a coffee and a pastry. Imagine paying to include breakfast and that's what you get from a hotel. Horrendous.

Horrible new carpet smell and bare bones amenities / service

Sofitel NYC recently carpeted all of its rooms with new carpet. It smells awful. The offgassing from these new carpets gave me a horrible headache. There are no windows to ventilate the room, so I think the offgassing smell situation is going to be the case for a while. I paid close to $1000 a night for this room. I understand that New York hotel rooms are expensive, especially during busy event, seasons, but this was just too underwhelming. There is no drinking water in the rooms. The linens basically feel like microfiber or some sort of polyester, which is horrible. I tried calling guest services and was put on hold for 15 minutes. I generally think New York City has some of the fakest “luxury” hotels in the world and I would put the Sofitel in this category. Just avoid.

My recent stay was highly disappointing and fell far short of the quality I've come to expect from Sofitel. ​Upon arrival, there were unacceptable delays because the manager seemed unable to access a storage area, and there was no apology for the long wait. The only person who seemed to care was the concierge; the other staff were busy talking amongst themselves. ​ The check-in staff did not acknowledge my membership status, and I had to specifically request the drink tickets that are a benefit. To make matters worse, I couldn't even use them, as they were only redeemable through room service with an additional delivery fee and limited hours. ​When I tried to give feedback about the welcome drink situation, the front desk staff became defensive and was not receptive at all. My frustration was compounded by an incorrect bill, which I thankfully caught before checking out. I will not be returning to this hotel and highly recommend considering other neighboring hotels, where I've had much better service and care.

I recently stayed at Sofitel New York for three nights with my father. As an ALL Heartists member, I appreciate the elegance and comfort that Sofitel properties are known for, and overall we enjoyed the beautiful hotel and great location. That said, I had noted in my reservation that this trip was to celebrate my father’s birthday, and unfortunately there was no acknowledgement of that during our stay. Even a small gesture would have made the occasion feel more special. While we still had a nice experience, I feel this was a missed opportunity for the thoughtful, personalized service that Sofitel is usually recognized for. I hope the team takes this into account for future guests, as those little touches can truly make a stay unforgettable. Also adding at least a coffee machine would be great.
